Sewer camera inspections are certainly a valuable tool our technicians here at ROOT-A-WAY Drain Cleaning use to help property owners identify specific plumbing issues so the correct solutions can be swiftly carried out. However, they’re not magic. Sewer camera inspections have limitations just like any other piece of equipment.

What A Sewer Camera Inspection Can’t Do

While sewer camera inspections may not have that many limitations, tracking down leaks is certainly one. Now, this may be hard to believe since sewer camera inspections can be so important for leak location tests, however, when you really think about it, it makes sense why the two aren’t a good fit. For starters, water escaping from a small hole or crack can be nearly impossible to see from inside an actual pipe. Secondly, if the pipes are made of PVC or cast iron, almost any hole or crack that is visible is likely to not even go all the way through, or be on the actual pipe at all if there’s a significant buildup of soap, minerals, debris, grease, and more. Add on the fact that it can be hard to make out small details on the monitor displaying your live feed, and it just makes sense that a sewer camera inspection would not be your first thought for detecting a leak. There are plenty of things sewer camera inspections are good for though.

What A Sewer Camera Inspection Can Do

If you ever need to locate a line, figure out why your sewer isn’t working the way it’s supposed to, inspect your system connections, or determine what your pipes are made of, sewer camera inspections are an easy choice. Being able to see right down into your pipes means it will take mere minutes to identify what material your plumbing is made of, and what condition your fittings and connections are in, for the sake of maintenance, repair, and replacement inquiries. You’ll be able to figure out what and where the biggest problems are so you can figure out the best way to clear out the mud, roots, clogs, stoppages, broken pipes, or whatever else is compromising the efficiency of your sewer system. Especially since sewer cameras are equipped with precise sensors that send back a signal to let you know exactly where it, and your sewer troubles, can be found.
